March  2009

Dear Seniors Class Families,

Plans are well under way for the 13th Grad Nite Live, the all-night alcohol-and drug-free celebration for Marshfield High School graduates to be held on May 30th, 2009.  Statistics indicate that prom and graduation season can be the riskiest time of the year for teenagers. Marshfield is no exception.
Grad Nite Live is a community attempt to offer our children a night they will always remember, together as a class, in a place where they can have fun and feel safe.  The Grad Nite Board and Steering Committee have instituted new safeguards and procedures to help ensure that your child will be safe and have a lot of fun on this very exciting night.

Critical to the event’s success is your financial support and we feel your child is worth it.

Expenses for the event exceed $25,000.  No town funding has been available to cover expenses in recent years, and is unlikely again this year.  We understand that “senior parents” are asked to fund many items and that we are all experiencing tough economic times.  That simply underscores how difficult is to raise funds for this important event.  We simply ask that each family contribute to the best of your ability.  Please keep in mind; this is not a ticket to the event since all graduates receive an invitation to attend, but rather a gift to the class as a whole. Your support will help to ensure that there will be no cost to the students that night.

Each year a surprise theme is used to transform the high school.  Graduates arrive at 11:00 p.m. and are our guests until 5:00 a.m. Sunday, when breakfast is served and prizes awarded.  Throughout the night, we provide live entertainment, food, movies, and activities for all.  Preceding years have been very successful, and the event has become a wonderful tradition for the graduates.  An average of 87 % of class members have participated in the past five years, which means that your child will want to attend!

Grad Nite Live is organized by volunteers from every segment of our community including elementary students, senior citizens, caring adults, and graduates; to the many businesses who support us with financial and material donations.

Along with your financial support, there are other ways for senior parents to become involved.  Please review the attached sheet for details. Please take this opportunity to become involved in this most important event.  Simply indicate your choice on the enclosed form and return it along with your donation by April 15th and you will be contacted by a member of the Steering Committee.

Thank you for your support.  We look forward to another exciting Grad Nite Live.

Sincerely,

Bill Bowers
